Melanoma data sends Moderna shares skyrocketing

A vaccine candidate from Moderna and Merck & Co almost halved the rate of skin cancer recurrence in a late-stage trial, the two companies report. The announcement sent Moderna’s share price soaring by more than 170 per cent.

Intismeran, an individually tailored mRNA‑based vaccine, was evaluated in combination with the cancer drug Keytruda (pembrolizumab) in patients who had previously been diagnosed with malignant melanoma but had had their tumour surgically removed. A total of 1,137 patients took part in the Phase III trial.
