The Academy has now submitted its recommendations in preparation for the Government’s 2024 research bill, expressing concern that Sweden is lagging in terms of the most advanced research.
To substantiate this, it points out that the proportion of highly cited Swedish scientific publications is currently significantly lower than the proportion of publications from comparable countries such as Denmark, the Netherlands and Switzerland. Furthermore, the approval rate for applications to the European Research Council is notably lower - around 10% - for Swedish grants than for many Central European countries, which are above 15%.
