GLP-1 analogues, such as Ozempic, lower blood sugar levels, slow stomach digestion, and suppress appetite. However, some previous studies and side effect data have indicated that the drugs may be linked to an increased risk of thyroid tumours.
Researchers at the Karolinska Institute, among others, have now investigated the matter by analysing national registry data from Sweden, Denmark and Norway for around 145,000 patients treated with GLP-1 analogues and 290,000 patients treated with another type of diabetes drug, DPP4 inhibitors.
