Danish pharmaceutical company Lundbeck has been granted orphan designation by the European Commission for its drug candidate asedebart for the treatment of endogenous Cushing’s syndrome, according to a press release.

Asedebart is a monoclonal antibody targeting the hormone ACTH and is being developed for ACTH-dependent forms of Cushing’s syndrome. The condition is characterised, among other things, by chronically elevated levels of cortisol.
A proof-of-concept study is under way to evaluate the efficacy and safety of asedebart in Cushing’s disease.
