Measure blood sugar without finger pricking

The Danish entrepreneurial firm RSP Systems has developed a method to measure the blood sugar level in diabetes patients, simply by placing a fingertip on a small illuminating lens.

After placing a fingertip

on the small lens you just have to wait a few moments for the result to appear on a screen. No finger pricking is necessary. The device uses an analytical method called Raman spectroscopy, a long-known and well established spectroscopic technique that can provide information on the composition of solids and liquids by observing the scattering of light from a single frequency light beam such as laser.

RSP Systems is still

at the development stage with its product, and estimates that it will take another two or three years to eliminate unwanted optical and electrical noise and optimise signal quality to the level required for a commercial product.
